İzmir Bakırçay University is a State University, where the President's Decision was established in the Official Gazette with the law numbered 6745 on 20.08.2016. It takes its name from the Bakırçay valley in İzmir.
With the Presidential Decree No. 2319 published on March 28, 2020; The Institutes of Science, Social Sciences and Health Sciences operating within our university were closed and the "Graduate Education Institute" was established in their place, regardless of field. Currently, in our Graduate Education Institute, intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary doctoral, thesis and non-thesis master's programs are carried out by 32 Department Heads. Educational activities continue in a total of 62 programs, 35 of which are master's degrees with thesis, 13 master's degrees without thesis and 14 doctoral programs. The Graduate Education Institute has 902 (variable) active students registered in its programs and 283 graduate students.
In our institute, thesis studies are carried out in the İzmir Bakırçay University Research and Application Centers where solutions to sectoral problems are sought and supported by the Scientific Research Projects Coordination Office. İzmir Bakırçay University has adopted the understanding of the total quality in education and in line with the short- and medium-term strategic plans and targets of İzmir Bakırçay University, the number of graduate students is expected to be in the range of 3-4 thousand within 10 years.
